EXAMPLES OF RECENT SPECIAL APPLICATION PRODUCTS

Using a combination of ocean engineering experience, our extensive stock of specialised components  and comprehensive workshop facilities we are able to design, manufacture and where required install speciality products some recent examples are:

Marine Turbidity Control Systems

Client: Lihir Gold 2007

Product: Open water curtain, soft float system 4m deep skirt 800m long supplied with mooring and shore connection assemblies

Application: To contain flocculating acid mine runoff

Client: Neumann Contractors 2008-2009

Product: Spreader Barge Containment Systems using Seacurtain Float assembly fitted with 5.2m deep adjustable combination permeable/impermeable skirts length of each assembly 87.5m, duration of operation 12 months.

Application: Spreader Barge containment system to minimise turbidity whilst back filling of pipeline trench using two dredgers feeding spreader barges in train with a pipelaying barge.

Client: Water Delivery Alliance 2009

Product: Combination Contractors Curtain for short deployment (6-8 weeks) in open bay conditions

Application: Client required a robust, cost effective solution to the containment of clay fines during initial pipeline trenching operations. Whilst being deployed for a relatively short period of time the product was to be effective.

Client: Jan de Nul NV 2008-9

Product: Sea Curtain Bottom ballasted, curtain length 1800m, skirt depth 12m duration of deployment 3 years. This product has required no routine maintenance to the installed structure over a period exceeding twelve months. However, sections were repaired or replaced resulting from:

bulleta very large cutter/suction dredge anchor being dropped on top of curtain
bulleta work vessel running over curtain
bulletan out of control spreader barge being driven through curtain by the towing tug
bulletcurtain being buried spreader barge spraying sand over the top of the curtain

despite this level of abuse the system has remained effective in its operation and all components from damaged sections where suitable for reuse in the replacement panels.

Application: A curtain required deployment in a project area where dredging was to be undertaken adjacent to  operational shipping channels. A combination curtain and mooring system was required to minimise intrusion into shipping lanes and allow setting of dredge anchors to within 10m of curtain systems. ABBCo designed, manufactured and installed a bottom ballast anchored curtain using 70-80mm continuous stud link chain attached to the curtain at 4m intervals using droppers. Using RTK-DGPS and specially designed and configured deployment equipment the mooring system was deployed to within 0.5m of the curtain alignment.

Client: Boskalis 2007

Product: Impermeable Dredge Screen

Application: An impermeable dredge screen was constructed to enable attachment to dunlop floating pipes which were used to provide a screen around a backhoe dredge operating in a high current area dredging contaminated materials. The dunlops were utilised as a float system as they were available on site (cutter suction also on site) and could be located in a radius around the dredge operating area minimising the cost of an expensive dredge frame.

Underwater Grout Injection Systems/Structures

Client: Macmahon Kingston Foreshore ACT 2007

Product: Foreshore Precast Segment Underfill Grout Pillows

Application: Design and specification of infill bags for the in water installation of precast seawall segments

Client: Commercial Diving Services 2007

Product: Pump Through Infill Pillows

Application: Opening sealing of under road scouring in a large storm water channel. Bags were constructed to enable grout to be pumped into a void formed behind them.

Client: Dempsey/Blue Water JV 2008

Product: Foundation Filled Tubes & Riser Sealing Tubes

Application: 8m diameter doughnut shaped tubes to enable formation of a foundation base for the inlet and outlet risers

Client: Baulderstone  2009

Product: Infill Panels and Grout Injection Tubes Pillows and Mattresses

Application: Infill panels and grout joining bags for counterfort units for Port Botany Expansion. Due to the critical nature of the application a comprehensive and progressive testing protocol was developed and implemented during the manufacturing process to ensure finished product quality verification.

Client: Water Delivery Alliance 2008-2009

Product: Underpipe Matresses Including Provision of Grout Mixing and Pumping System

Application: foundation seating and support for bay to shore connection segments of concrete coated pipes
